Lady Raiders Softball Tied for Second in District

The Lady Raiders have amassed a 5-2 record against District 13-3A opponents with five games remaining on the district schedule.

The team completed the first pass through the district field with a 1-0 win over Quitman at home on March 26. Joeleigh Stone took an inside pitch off the knee to reach base in the second inning. Fernanda Palacios, who entered as a courtesy runner for the Lady Raider catcher, stole second and scored on an Alexis Carr triple.

Laila Wells pitched the complete game shutout. The freshman allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out five.

Winnsboro was roughed up Friday at Mount Vernon falling 11-1 in six innings. The teams have split head-to-head with the Lady Raiders taking a 2-1 victory in their first meeting in the March 5 district opener.

Atop the standings, Mineola remains untouched through seven games. The Lady Jackets edged Winnsboro 3-2 on March 22. Winnsboro and Mount Vernon have each posted 5-2 records; Quitman and Harmony are locked up with 3-4 records. Chapel Hill (1-6) and Winona (0-6) round out the field.
