Winnsboro Advances Four Teams to THSBA State

Kaylee Spencer and Harlee Smith took second place overall for total weight plus the top big bass at the Texas High School Bass Association regional tournament on Lake Tawakoni on April 13. Spencer hauled in a 6.69-pound bass that boosted the duo’s five fish total to 15.96 pounds. Boat captain is Brian Spencer.

Along with Spencer and Smith, Winnsboro advanced three additional fishing duos into the THSBA State tournament coming up May 18-19 on Lake Palestine.

Samuel Cotton and Jarrett Baker finished 14th overall with 11.65 pounds on three fish. Cotton weighed the tournament’s second largest bass at 6.33 pounds. Boat captain is Sam Cotton.

Porter South and Leon Ackerman placed 17th with five bass weighing 10.41 pounds. Boat captain is Brian South.

Skeet Brumley and Slayton placed 53rd. Brumley, who was fishing solo on Saturday, weighed three fish for 5.52 pounds. Boat captain is Kevin Brumley.

Other regional qualifiers for Winnsboro were Gage Ivey and Cooper Standridge, Kale Robinson and Kanyon Russom, and Xander Lopez and Timmy Lopez.

The Winnsboro program took third place in the tournament overall. They were the Northeast Division champion based on their regular season results.

The top 62 out of 205 boats competing at regional punched their tickets to state where they face top teams out of regional competitions on Lake Limestone (Houston/Hill/Bayou divisions) and Possum Kingdom (North/West/Metro divisions). The Winnsboro regional on Lake Tawakoni included teams from the Northeast, East and Central divisions.

Ivey/Standridge, South/Ackerman, and Robinson/Russom have also qualified for the Angler of the Year tournament set for June 21 on Lake Ray Roberts.
