Camden Capehart earned a trip to the UIL State Meet with a gold medal performance in the 100-meter dash at the Region II-3A meet on Monday at Whitehouse. The state meet is set for Thursday, May 2, at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin; running events begin at 5 p.m.
With four regional meets around the state, the top two finishers in each event punched their tickets to state.
The 4×100 and 4×200-meter relays were a near miss for state qualification with third-place finishes in each. Chayne Tedford, Will Wilcox, Tyson Johnson and Capehart turned in a time of 43.03 seconds in the 4×100. Tedford, Johnson, Capehart and Jerik Joyner registered a 1:30.31 in the 4×200.
Capehart also qualified for finals in the long jump.
Gage Fulmer placed third in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 9.75 inches.
Other regional qualifiers were Kyler Finney in the 300-meter hurdles; Brandon Dunavant and Joseph Nguyen in the 3200-meter run; Dunavant in the 1600; Wilcox in long jump and 100; and Finney, Joyner, Kase Saucier and Nolee Carroll in the 4×400-meter relay.
Dunavant, Finney, Joyner, Nguyen, and Wilcox are seniors. Fulmer, Tedford and Johnson are juniors. Capehart, Carroll, and Saucier are sophomores.
